Lots of water goes down those drains, the "gasket" does not seal the
roof panel, it just closes the gap up to prevent wind noise and direct
the water to the drains.
You have a plugged or corroded through drain pan.

This whole story just makes me sad. The car is only ten years old--it
shouldn't be leaking water (barring poorly-repaired accident damage or
something like that).
I am shopping for a post-facel
new genuine Mercedes gasket for the sunroof opening and replaced it.
After the next heavy rain the water still entered the front
passenger's wheel.
Why does this surprise you? You already proved that water poured
into the drain channel gets where it's not supposed to. The sunroof

It's a 99, so sliding/pop-up, and its the gasket that fills the gap
between the steel of the roof and the edge of the glass.
Mine keeps dislodging at the passenger rear corner.

If it's like most it's a simple pull off/press in process. Some of the earlier
models that use the "fuzz" around the openings rehire that to be screwed in.

How much of a pain was that gasket to swap?
I've got a 99 E300, and the rear passenger corner keeps
for the next week :-)

IIRC, the gasket around the sun roof is not really expected to keep water
out, the drains are supposed to be able to handle the volume. The sun roof
is supposed (on some models anyway) to sit a little low or high to reduce
wind noise.
