Well, now that the holiday guests are gone, I finally got to look at
this - number 1 glow plug had 97k ohms resistance. I had previously
ordered new ones from Rusty, so replaced it, and now the car is acting
normally again. Starts immediately, and runs smooth as silk at idle,
right away.

Certainly Craig,
The WSM section 15-4000 says to test the wires by pulling the connector from
the relay and measure each wires resistance to ground (to the engine

OK - I'm calling it a relay, and you're calling it an amp - that's
what was confusing me.

Glow plug amp? Is this the relay, or something else? It has worked
fine for six or so months since I last worked

It's quite possible that you have one open circuit glow plug.
The glow relay would then be correct in displaying the bad plug
signals, and the car would run crappy until the bad plug is
heated by combustion.

Nope - the ABS light works normally - that is, it's off once the car starts.

Glow plug amp? Is this the relay, or something else? It has worked
fine for six or so months since I last worked on it -- but that
doesn't mean that one of the recently new glow plugs isn't burnt out,
or that the relay or amp (?) didn't go South ---

The glow light has started acting strange in the '90 300D 2.5. It
doesn't light when you turn the key to the glowing position (I did
verify that the plugs get electricity in this position), the car
starts right up, idles faster and rougher than usual, then about 30
seconds later, while driving
