They tend to reduce road mess getting up on the engine, as act as a diaper for
any leaks that may try to mark the pavement. Lazy mechanics and body shops
tend to lose the part when performing services as it speeds up access to the car

back.
Like headlight wipers on the cars that have them, I consider noise
encapsulation pane
I take mine off or just don't put them back when they get buggered. I know
diesels sound reduction etc etc. I have 2 or 3 124 pans,around here.
