It's not very clear from my email, so here's a list of what got done.
Disconnected refrigerant lines, electrical power, low voltage lines, and
removed outside unit.
Disconnected same from air handler under house, plus supply air duct and return
air duct, and condensate drain, and removed air
I Will attest that proper install is key.
Friend who does HVAC for a living helped me install. His comment when I set up
and used nitrogen sweep prior to brazing: company makes all the technicians
carry nitrogen, but very few use it.

heat pump model is still cooling well. Dealer said Trane uses off the
shelf parts, so Tranes are cheaper to repair.
