Hustler were equally his best performances, and he had many other excellent
performances as well (Butch Cassidy, The Sting, and on and on), with very

I saw the man once. Jose Carpio and I attended a performance of the
Harold Prince revival of SHOW BOAT
on Broadway in the early nineties. There were lots of celebrities in
the audience. The play had only been open
a few nights and was an amazing hit and a wonde
being a little taller than he.
I always thought movie stars were giants! And, in fact, some of them were...

In listing my favorite "Paul Newman" movies, I forgot to mention Cat on a
Hot Tin Roof, probably because I don't really think of it as a "Paul Newman
movie" because of the incredible performances by Taylor and Ives. But it IS
one of my all time favorites, for so many reasons.

Robert Benson's TWILIGHT (1998) had Newman carrying a film at 73 along side
Gene Hackman and James Garner (two other greats) and it turned out to be one of
the best films of the year. He certainly pulled it off. One of my favorite
films, period. A must see.
