I've been on the site for a month and I'm having a hard time navigating. I
can't always find the original person and their email. I apologize for sending
this to everyone. I would also like to see the notes and schedule of the
original poster for my RW and WW. thank you.

I was and still am a fan of Lucy Calkins. So when my school district
decided to adopt her writing program I thought it would be great. I
guess her presentations didn't translate well into a writing program.
My colleagues hate the program and none of them use it. They feel it is
to simple and
experiences. Gone were the
formulistic paragraphs and boring essays.
We had lots of staff development though, and each school had a literacy
coach to help them muck through it all.

I agree with Leslie. I beat myself up feeling like I should be reading
every comprehension book published and doing every comprehension
activity in all the books. I posted a list of books to use with high
first graders yesterday and this taught me a lesson. I had some of the
best conversations
Is there a TAWL group somewhere? I had a local TAWL group that I
attended and with the backlash against whole language all the local TAWL
groups and the publications stopped in my area and I'm trying to
reconnect.

Hi,
Teachers most of the time simply can't control what the administration
does and after 27+ years of teaching I know that administrations do NOT
always do what is best for students even with the best intentions. No
matter how much we discuss this issue this remains a fact of our
profession.

Oh my!
I just had my annual Poetry Night at our local Barnes and Noble
bookstore.
First, don't wait until April to do poetry. I love poetry because there
is NO RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER and it can be a great comprehension tool! I
teach first grade and I have a WIDE range of ability levels and poetry
I am starting my Habitat Unit also. I would appreciate any
information I can get on graphic organizers that are being used for text
structure. Also what is the light bulb idea for cause and effect. Thank
you.

Okay. Beating a dead horse. I want to thank the person who just wrote
in defending the DI conversation. I don't even use DI but I understand
the need to voice your opinion. I just joined the listserv and I LOVE

Does anyone have and/or know of where I can go to find research on
departmental teaching for FIRST GRADE? Some of the teachers want to
seen six year olds from room to room (switch classes) for reading
and math. I'm opposed because I believe strongly
better about it.
I always appreciate this group and the open conversations! You guys have
helped me on many occasions.
Thanks,
Andrea
