There is currently a single immature Ross’s Goose grazing amongst a large group
of Canada Geese in Brookview Park, Golden Valley. Lots of dog walkers nearby,
so not sure how long it will hang around. Best access is from Western Avenue
west of Winnetka Ave south of Hwy 55.

In a muddy flooded spot on the SE corner of Co Rd 11 & 545 Ave, there
are 5 Buff-breasted Sandpipers, as well as a Stilt Sandpiper and
several other shorebirds.

The Black Scoter found at Black Dog Lake by Herb Dingmann yesterday is
present this afternoon. The bird was seen east of the outlet actively
diving amidst a large group of Common Mergansers & Goldeneyes. A scope
is probably needed to ID it.

Bob Ekblad and I relocated the BBSAs found by Doug Kieser yesterday
evening in the southwest corner of Wright Co. The birds were slightly
east of the location described by Doug on the east side of Platt Ave
SW just south of 110th St SW.

there were some aggravating misses including Turkey Vulture, Sedge Wren,
Greater Yellowlegs and Common Nighthawk. We finished the day at 10:40 PM with a
Great Horned Owl and several displaying American Woodcock.

There were two (possibly three) American Avocets and a Willet at the far north
end of Clear Lake today in Stevens County. Clear Lake is 8 miles west of Morris
on CR 28 and then 0.5 mile south on 560th Ave.

for Traverse Co from Oct 18-19, 1942. It would interesting to know if this was
just a sporadic sighting or whether they might be establishing a colony here.

The Yellow-breasted Chat found by Doug Kieser on 6/21 in Olmsted Co
was seen today from 12:30-1:00 at the same spot. The bird was silent
for the 1.5 hours I was there. The three times I observed it, it was
carrying an insect, suggesting there might be an active nest.

The Least Tern found this evening by Herb Dingmann just east of Luverne was
present from 7:55-8:15 PM. It spent most of the time flying & dive fishing
before settling down on the far shore amongst the shorebirds. Directions posted
by Ron are spot on. Thanks, Herb (& Ron)!

A male Barrow's Goldeneye was present this afternoon ~3-4:30 at Coon Rapids
Dam, first spotted by Jim Ryan. Also present were 2 Red-necked Grebes & 3 Eared

Over 7000 Common Mergansers were counted yesterday on the Excelsior CBC. They
were accompanied by approximately 800 Common Goldeneyes and 23 Bald Eagles.
Most of the birds were counted from the marina along Smiths Bay.

I found a single Townsend's Solitaire this afternoon at the Ann Lake location
in Sherburne Co described by Pastor Al in an earlier post (11/29). The bird was
approximately 1/4 mile south of the parking lot, alternating between feeding in
the cedars and perching atop the deciduous trees.

The two Whooping Cranes reported this morning from just south of
Owatonna were still present this evening at 6:30 PM in the same field.
Does anyone know the origin of these birds? Are they part of the
Wisconsin flock that overshot their mark?

On Sunday (6/10) I observed two Dickcissels along Tessmer Rd about
0.5-0.6 miles west of Co Rd 19 in northwestern Hennepin County - one
of the last unpaved roads in the county. This spot is in northwestern

CBC since 1974 and with the rate the suburbs are spreading, who knows when
