N Ottawa today:
One of the two King Rails was seen along the flooded portion of 250th street
where previously reported. We were east of the flooded portion standing near
the road intersection by the culverts
We relocated the Glossy Ibis at North Ottawa Impoundment at its previously
recorded location between 6:45 and 7:20 PM tonight. Also present were one
Snowy Egret, four Cattle Egrets, three Marbled and four Hudsonian Godwits
plus many peeps.

We observed the previously reported Varied Thrush from 1:45 to 2:30 pm this
afternoon. The thrush was sitting and actively feeding in the Crabapple
trees near the white fence on the south side of the cemetery boundary.

While birding Glacial Ridge NWR I found 2 Loggerhead Shrikes near the
junction of 300th ST SW and 160th AV SW. One Shrike was just South of this

As a bird photographer, I add my voice to Ken Vail in echoing his words
of caution to those who do not respect the space of these beautiful wild

Leusistic House Sparrow: Southwest corner of Hennepin County 10 and 19
(Burschville). Stunning bird ( no photo) was a cream color with a slight

I was told by Jim Otto that there were two Cattle Egrets at 180th St. Marsh
at about noon today. I arrived there at about 1:30 pm and found the two
Cattle Egrets on the North side of the road in the West most pond.

Tundra Swans and dozens of Killdeer running around on the mud. Ducks
included Common Mergansers, Gadwall, Mallard, Northern Pintail, Wood Ducks,
and some distant Scaup.

We located a Boreal Owl sitting on the North edge of
Scenic Hwy. 61 approximately 100 yards west of 7647 mailbox at 8:00 am.
(46.85710N, 91.97352W). This is approximately a mile East of the South end of
the Scenic Hwy 61.

The Harlequin Duck was present below the lock and dam at Alma WI this
morning 1-8-13. The bird was hanging out on the MN side of the river most
of the time.
