the middle of a quiet residential street in
Blaine. This was at dusk. Wood ducks lead their young to water in the
morning. I can not remember noticing Mallards this late in the day. As
yet, no babies on Quigley.

majority were Lesser Yellowlegs. In addition there was at least
one Baltimore Oriole, and a good number of warblers, mostly Yellow-rumps,
but also Yellow and possibly Blackburnian and Black and White.

Vultures have an appetite for rubber. It is a major problem in the
Everglades, but mostly with the Black Vultures. Many people cover there

Golden-crowned Kinglets were widely seen in small numbers during Christmas
Bird Counts in northern Minnesota with reports in Baudette, Beltrami
Island, Itasca State Park, Isabella, Bemidji,and Hibbing count circles
according to incomplete reports.

nest mates that were released by WRC in late July. They continue, I

considerable difference in the migration timing of Willows and Alders with
the Willows migrating quietly early and the Alders migrating late singing.

Say's Phoebe at the irrigation equipment a few hundred yards north of Hwy
212 near mile marker 4. Attempts later that day and on Sunday were

For the last four days our suet has been visited by a Flicker. This
morning we had a Fox Sparrow and Juncos under the feeders.

I did drive by Hogan 180th St northeast of Vermillion today at about
4:30. And, I did not see the owl.

(carefully ID'd as Eastern).

second most common bird missed was the Ruffed Grouse, found previously in
76% of counts, again indicative of reports that their numbers are low
around the state.

Interesting reports from the Floodwood area that I heard about included:
A moose on CR 8 east of Floodwood last summer.
A cougar near Cromwell in October out in the bogs.
Lots of Bobcats (or Lynx) and wolves in the area.
