This morning there was a vocal and visible Red-breasted Nuthatch
foraging in the pine trees behind the Interpretive Center here at
Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. I'm assuming this bird is an
early migrant, as I have not seen or heard one here all summer.

been good last fall and this spring are completely dry with no water
present. The more northern of the two might be good for Buff-breasted
Sandpipers, but that's about it.

individuals present: one Common Yellowthroat, two American Redstarts,
one Tennessee, and one Wilson's.
There was also a Barred Owl calling at the western end of the park.

At least two of the birds are rather approachable, offering stunning
looks of this hard-to-find species in MN. I'll post another photo to
the Recently Seen page in a bit. At least one of the birds appeared
to be a male molting into breeding plumage (not quite there yet).

The Cinnamon Teal is currently at the location described earlier by John Cyrus.
Note however that the flooded field is south of the farmhouse on the west side
of the road. This is about 1.5 miles south of hwy. 212 on Salem Ave.

This morning I found Common Terns on both Lake Vadnais and White Bear Lake
in northeastern Ramsey County. I generally don't find this species on lakes
in southern Minnesota until mid-May, at which point Forster's Terns have

Several of us just located an adult male Lark Bunting along 140th St.
halfway between Roberts and Sundberg Aves. in northeastern Nobles County.
The bird was originally flushed from the north side of the road and has
since spent much of its time in the agricultural field to the south.

Monument. The bird was initially spotted in the grasses north of the

Great Egrets in a cow pasture on the south side of CR 22 about a quarter

Erik Collins and I are currently looking at the Least Tern east of Luverne.
The bird is spending most of the time actively flying and diving into the
water on the south side of the flooded field.

Chris Hockema just called to report that he and Dedrick Benz are looking at
a Ruddy Turnstone out from the viewing deck at the end of the boardwalk
west of the parking lot at the Old Cedar Ave. Bridge in Bloomington.

mile north of Red Rock Prairie TNC which I mentioned in my post
yesterday. Interestingly I neither heard nor saw any longspurs at Red Rock
Prairie earlier today (strong winds are a factor today), although there
were two Snow Buntings along the quartzite outcrops.

Herb Dingmann just called to report that a Long-tailed Duck has now joined
the White-winged Scoter on Green Lake in Spicer. The birds are visible on
the lake in front of Zorbaz.

John Hockema called to report that his brother Chris found a
Yellow-throated Warbler at the Whitewater State Park nature store around
8:00 this morning. This is the third consecutive year that this Casual
species has been found at this location.

There is also an early Hudsonian Godwit flying around the ponds along with
a few other shorebirds.

Several of us are looking at a drake Eurasian Wigeon at the main overlook
off of Hwy. 11 at Twin Lakes WMA east of Karlstad. The bird is in a large,
tight group of ducks at the western end of the lake.

quite loudly but intermittently and allowing stunning views as it forages
