[mpir-devel] mpn_randomb

2009-10-18 Thread Bill Hart
The function described as mpn_randomb appears to be misnamed. The documentation says it generates a random number of n limbs. But the name suggests it generates a random number of n bits. Can we rename it before the release, are the docs wrong, or should we fix this in a service release? Bill.

[mpir-devel] Obsoleted functions

2009-10-18 Thread Bill Hart
For the release, I'd like to prepare a list of all functions which: 1) Were obsoleted long ago, which we have now removed 2) Which were already obsoleted in GMP and still obsoleted (but not yet removed) in MPIR 3) Which we have subsequently obsoleted, and a short explanation why, including any

The binary itself also exports mpir_version, which is a char * giving the version string, "1.3.0" in the case of the MPIR about to be released. I guess this is not so useful unless you already know you have MPIR and not GMP. But in the rare case where a user has screwed up by having a gmp.h from G

Hi Dan, You can certainly report bugs here. The trac account is useful if you believe you'll be reporting bugs regularly. I believe you can set it up to notify you when comments are added or the issue is closed in trac however. If that is what you want then you could have an account for that purp

Suppose I link a program dynamically with libgmp, and at run time libgmp is being impersonated by libmpir. Is there a (reliable) way for the program to tell? I ask, because I like to arrange the copyright message of Macaulay2 to display the copyright of libraries in use, so it's nice to know whi

Dear Bill, I (belatedly) see that bugs are to be reported to mpir-devel (i.e., here), so maybe I won't need a trac account. (I still haven't isolated the bug I might have to report, which is why I haven't already reported it.) Perhaps such accounts are only for people fixing bugs? Or is it al

Actually mabshoff gave me these directions (for FLINT): adding a user: == cd into wbh...@sage:~/flint-trac/sage-3.0.5-x86_64-Linux/flint_trac/conf The for user foobar run "htdigest passwd sage.math.washington.edu foobar" it will then ask you for a new password which you then have to retyp
