The SP-151 is durable; I built a wristwatch a few years ago with the same unit my father got as a sample back in 1974. In fact, the prototype on my workbench is still running after 5 years on the *same* charge I put on the Li-ion battery (yeah, the battery drives the display and the RTC).

I had one of these evaluation kits, and I recall that the displays were socketed. If you have an oscilloscope, you should do some basic debugging. I would start at the power supply (one of my nixie clocks used a Signal Transformer of the same vintage that died due to an open primary). If

if you can remove the displays from the board, I would try holding a small high voltage high frequency AC source near them and see if the neon turns on  - you do not need to touch the pins to this high voltage  ( I use my trusty  DermaWand  ) hope this help Phrama Phil --

It won't do any damage. The current rating on a voltage supply is a maximum value. Actual current flowing is determined by the circuit - if it is taking 250mA from 5V, 1A supply, it will still take 250mA from 5V, 3A supply. As long as the supply provides 5V and has rating of at least 250mA, it

This "ATmega328P on COM1" is only the port it *tries* to connect to. You should go into "Tools" and then into "Port" and try a different port. Usually COM1 is a default port, I don't really know if any program is using it. But I always see it as avaible and it never is the port Arduino is

That is a nicely executed acrylic box case, Nick. Acrylic boxes are my goto cheap case of choice (because I live near Tap Plastics and can have one made for less than $5). They are more transparent than glass, so any adhesive becomes visible. Mine are much less clean than Nick's. (.. and
