Geoff,
Basically have a switch sending SNMP traps. It does have an engine ID set.
All I have set in my snmptrapd.conf is :
createUser myuser SHA foo AES bar
authUser log,execute,net myuser
And that just works …. Will try it for more than one switch, but so far no
issues.
Regards,
Jason Pope
Ok … I have got it to work.
I forgot to add in the authUser line :-P
Also set it up without the engine ID and it works just with the username and
auth details.

Jason Pope

In Windows, you have to use semi-colon ';' to separate things for the -m and -M
options, but the usage text says to use a colon. Here's a patch to fix the
text:
diff -rup net-snmp-5.7.2-original/snmplib/snmp_parse_args.c

Is it OK?
By the way, I executed snmpd with root.

Hi
This is Jason from Southern California. I'm working on using SNMP v3 for
Microprocessor LPC2468. We've already ordered SNMP v3 Agent for the
Microprocessor. Now I want to communicate with the Microcontroller using my own
GUI application ( which is a Windows form in Visual C ).
This corrected the problem. Thank you.

Hell Everyone,
I'm not sure whether this is a problem with snmptrapd or with the agent/mib

I am using www.solarwinds.com Orion to monitor various other servers(windows
based) and other network gear and I would like to get the OSX servers to use
it. In the forums I have read people have had luck using v5.0.9. Any info
would be greatly appreciated.

As a matter of fact, I've got a whole script that build a Solaris

Using 5.2.1 build and I just got a couple of questions. I am trying to
monitor CPU load, but the tools I have(Orion from Solarwinds.net)
reports that its at 100%. Running top on the machine I see load avg as
1.24,1.21,1.00 and CPU Usage at 60.4%. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks in
advance.

According to my scripts, you would do a "make install
INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr/local/dist/usr/local" instead of with the prefix and
exec_prefix variables. Not sure why Net-SNMP does it that way, but this
works for me.
Try that and see if you have any better luck.

This is still on my list to play with. But, I've got to get everything
installed on my Ultra-2, which I just rebuilt with Sol 10. Once I have
that done, I'll jump on IRC. No sense in wasting everyone's time with
getting everything set up...

I would be quite interested in getting this to work on Solaris 2.8+. I would
probably need some handholding though.

And making sure you can get
snmptranslate to display information about
your MIB node. Once
snmptranslate works, then come back and try mib2c
again.
Thank you for your support.

Solaris tar has had a bug in it for as long as I can remember that
causes it to throw this error on very long directory names. Use GNU tar
instead. You can get it from the Contrib CD, or from sunfreeware.com
