Would it be too much to ask that this discussion be continued privately? It really
has nothing at all to do with the content matter of this list and it think it is a
little inconsiderate to the many of us out here who are not Americans and
futhermore really couldn't give one hoot about U.S.

I had the same problem with my Matshita CD ROM originally. After tearing my hair
out for a few days I set everything in my bios to default on my Abit
motherboard. Installed without a hitch. Could be sth to do with PnP but it's
hard to say because I had turned that off and it still didn't work.
I should be getting sth like "eth0 Link encap Ethernet HWaddress 00 60
."when I issue: ifconfig eth0 - but I just get an error about an
unknown device.
However HardDrake acknowledges that i have a configured Realtek 8029 and
I also have Apache installed and can access http://127.0.0.1 with

. Anyway,
everything went smoothly after that and installed perfectly.

I have a similar problem. Also have 7.1 CD package and can't boot from CD - the
bios setting doesn't work. I have uninstalled PnP. As far as I can get is
"detecting CD ROM" and the "loading second image" message. The computer then
reboots into Windows or goes through the same thing again if i use
Thanks, very interesting! The guy who thought up the concept of GUI - Vannevar
Bush - also wrote an article called "As we may think" (or sth similar) in which
he set out the idea of "hypertext".
Really ahead of his time...
