I want to put Linux on another PC that is entirely dedicated to Linux. So
far, I have a PC where I have a linux and a windows98 partition (with Boot
+ partition Magic).
How can I delete the Linux partition and use it entirely for Windows?
Just delete the Linux partition and that`s it?
thanks,
DrakConf is the new desktop configuration
panel which enables users to easily configure and modify hardware devices
such as video cards, keyboard, mouse and even USB devices.
very funny... I HAVE DrakConf on my desktop,
but when I click it, NOTHING happens!!!
Any idea??
If you insist on BootMagic, then boot your PC using the BootMagic rescue
disk. Restore BootMagic and all is well! (If you didn't create a
BootMagic rescue disk, then use the boot disk that I instructed you to
create in a previous E-mail and boot your PC with it. Next, change to the
so, I managed (with your help) to start Windows now. I used the Partiton
Manager and made the MBR of the D: bootable and not the C: one (which was
actually my old D:). Now, windows is booting, BUT there is still an error
before booting, saying something like "no boot partition found" or so...
I'm curious...did you use the 1) BootMagic rescue disk or 2) Have to make
your own boot disk and then run the BootMagic program from the HD?
yep, I made an own "rescue" disk and run BootMagic from the HD, but I did
actually the changes NOT with BootMagic (this didn`t work well under
Dos...),
Please help me VERY soon, this is urgent, because I cannot use my Windows
anymore!
I have updated Linux to Mandrake 7.0. There have been NO problems with the
installation.
Then, I started my PC, but it didn`t start Windows (as it did before). I
have the Boot Manager installed and it should
You said you can "see and access your data via Linux." If you are able to
see all the directories on your Windows partition, then "it is a great day!"
yep, finally something great today! :-) I can see ALL my partitions,
actually, using a Windows boot floppy, I can also ACCESS them, but my
Marc...I'm not sure what version of linux you are using, but I'm using Linux
mandrake complete 6.5, and I did a server install, and all of my exhisting
dos and windows partitions are still there and I port data back and forth
between them, I had no problems with losing partitions or anything
Besides all my probs (see other mails in this newsgroup), I cannot get my
ISDN card (Fritz! card) to work with Linux. I tried ttsy0 or whatever this
is .. don`t remember.. for the internal ISDN card, but it doesn´t dial!!
Further more, is USB now supported with the new Kernel? Mandrake 7.0 and
MarcWhat version of windows are you running? How is your
Windows 98
bios set for booting, scsi or IDE? Dual booting from both scsi
IDE drives may not work well, or at all, on some systems. How
was the bios set before you dedicated space on your IDE drives
to Linux?
no idea. All worked
Format a diskette with the MSDOS (or VFAT) filesystem. Copy the following
files from your Windows partition to this disk: Command.com, IO.sys, and
Msdos.sys. Download and extract Ranish Partition Manager 2.38 onto this
diskette. Keep this disk in the drive and reboot the PC. Type "part"
When booting to Linux, it does NOT start X Windows, but instead it gives me
the error message:
KDM: error in shared libraries libstdc++.so.29
Cannot open shared object file.
No such file or directory.
It gives this error about 10 times, then, at the end:
INIT: Id "x" respawning to fast:
CD-ROM...' message it gave me:
'mount failed. Invalid argument;
and then
'Error mounting ramdisk. This shouldn't happen. I am
rebooting your system
SAME problem here!!! It stucks when its says "reading ramdisk..."
any help please!
I have (finally) installed 7.0. The problem with the CD was that I wrote it
with the 4 time speed, but I could get it to run only when writing it with
normal one speed. Anyway... it installed now.
However, I got another problem:
when booting Linux, it runs all tests and seems fine, then, it
I have downloaded the iso file (Mandrake 7.0) and put it on CD (Easy CD
creator did everything for me, I just doubleclicked the iso file icon.).
No problem so far. I can also boot from CD. All seems fine.
BUT.. then it says LOADING and then "Loading second stage ramdisk" and
the cursor
I have to encrypt a password (to use it for the RIPE domain registrations).
They write I could use the UNIX tool to encrypt it.
HOW can I do it and what tool do I use?

Once you've go Go!Zilla installed, you can just download the iso image.
well, I didn`t know this and now I have downloaded /Mandrake and /images
directories !!
I do NOT intend to download also the iso image (620MB) now, because I
already have been online quite a long time! :-))
So, does it
The lovely thing about the ISO image was that I got a self-booting CDROM from
it. Entire Linux installed with nothing but one CDROM disk. And it even
worked with the hard drives the previous version wouldn't touch (36.5 gig
Maxtors).
yes, I believe that, but DOES IT WORK with the downloaded
I "think" I have installed php3 (using RPM), but I cannot find it. Where
should it be and how can I check wether it`s installed or not?
and... using another server, I want to figure out, WHICH php is installed.
How can I tell this?
andwhich php version is that? Apache/1.2.6 PHP/FI-2.0b11.
I did NOT use the iso image to download the new Mandrake 7.0, but
just downloaded the directories /Mandrake and /images with Go!Zilla.
BUT.. it didn`t download the symlinks correctly, there are some files that
are only symlinks and have 0K or just a few. HOW can I download those and
is it
I had downloaded the directories /Mandrake and /images and /dosutils
and created a boot disk. Everything SEEMED fine and it started the
installation (graphical, very nice...) :-)
At about the sixth or seventh point it told me that it couldn`t install all
packages. It continued though. Then,
I suggest downloading a better download manager. Don't be offended, but
I'm not a fan of Getright. I suggest downloading Go!Zilla. It does a
wonderful job...and it is totally free.
When using Go!Zilla (and/or others, such as WS_FTP), it seems that it
doesn`t download the symlink
I would need some quick help so that I could go ahead with downloading
during this night.
I am using Mandrake 6.1 with Kernel 2.2.13 and want to download Mandrake
7.0 now.
several questions:
1) can I install the 7.0 version OVER my 6.1 version? Does everything
remains unchanged? All
