Thanks for the help on permissions earlier. There are a couple more issues. I have to start firefox and thunderbird from root on reinstall of md10. Previously I started from root and they were ok on the 2nd start, but not this time. Also Thunderbird is not picking up on the settings in the

I posted this earlier, didn't get any help on it so I'm posting it again. I lost every device out of my /dev/sound folder due to some freak Mandrake snafu, so I have no sound in Gnome. Can someone tell me how to reinstall the sound devices? Having to reinstall Mandrake in order to fix this is not

Hello, again! I really screwed something up on my wife's Linux box (yes, she loves Linux and now she hates me!) and need to reinstall. It's a duel boot system with Win ME. If I do a fresh install of Linux, will it still see WinME? And if not, how do I go about keeping ME recognized on boot

Yes it will. You shouldn't have any problems doing a fresh install. You can probably get back into your wife's good graces, if you do not format the /home partiiton ( it will leave all of her settings intact.) Just make sure er user name is the same. Good Luck Eunice P.S. Are you sure you really

I'm reinstalling Linux due to stupidity. Now however, the installation stalls at "formatting hda1" it has already formated the other partitions. Hda1 is the / partition and so far it has been sitting there for an hour doing a 5-10 second blink on the HD light. Any suggestions? What is the command
