I was following the instructions on the Mandrake site to set my Creative
Labs CDRW with Man. 7.1
I also have a DVD rom .
Both before that were working fine.
So after I gave the command cd /dev rm cdrom $$ ln -s scd0 cdrom
two things happened.
One: I realized that there were more instructions
The CDRom Tray won't open when it's time to insert the extension CD. It
happened with CDRom drives that work on another PC. How do you get past this
installation process?

Here's what I get from what you are telling me. First of all, if linux mounts a drive,

unmounted.

Go into the dosutils directory and run the windows version of rawrite. then where it

Hi Alice,
if you are in a console, do
ls -l /dev/cdrom
and write down what the output is. We need to know where the cdrom entry

When you start mandrake, in the boot text there is a spot where the system

Hi,
I have just intalled the Mandrake. The installation
is quite easy compared with other linux product.
Just now I reboot my system. Just five seconds
after the pc restarted, there is a screen asking
me if I need to configurate my hardware. Then I answer
"yes", the next screen said that
Just thought i put out a warning about an old atapi cdrom: goldstar 8X 580B.
When the packages install begins it simply shuts down and dies. the screen
handling the cdrom outputs something like "lost irq"
So if yer having a goldstar cdrom maybe it is whats making yer day so messy

I have been attempting to install Linux Mandrake 7.0 (Air - GPL Edition),
with no success at all. I have a Creative Labs 52X CD-ROM drive in my
system, and it doesn't seem to want to read it. I am booting off of the
Linux CD to install. It goes through all of the detection processes fine,

Overall I was pretty well impressed with Mandrake 7-0-2, it was one of
the first distribution where I did not have to spend a couple of hours
tweaking

Ok, I have installed Mandrake linux on a AMD K6-233 with a Ricoh CR-RW and a
Mitsubishi Diamond 24x CR-Rom.
The CDroms are master and slave on my second ide cable. These drives at the
moment can not be seen by Linux, yet the bios can see

A friend has an IDE CDROM drive on the fourth (ide3)
controller. (Two controllers on motherboard, two more
provided by soundblaster card.) During installation
we specified:
linux ide3=base,ctr,irq
(using number in place of base, ctr, and irq - I just
don't have the numbers in front of me).
