Jeff,
I'm sure it must be something simple too. Let me clear up one point of
confusion: the whole computer goes into power conservation, this is not just
a problem of the video card. When it goes to the next step of power saving
shutdown there is no getting Linux back up without cutting

Jeff,
This looked so good, but it didn't work; power saving is still active.
All steps went smoothly, and as your instructions described. I rebooted the

Newbie group, please help me get rid of this annoyance!
The DPMS (computer operation suspension for power conservation) function

can't disable the DPMS from functioning. I have been setting it from KDE by

First thing I do to stop this is remove kdpms. Log in or su to root. Start
up kpackage. Click on the little magnifying glass and type kdpms and hit find.

Can anyone write instructions to get DPMS (power management) to work
reliably and to stick across IPL. If you go to KDE and set it up it only
lasts for that session. The next boot it is gone. There has to be a way for
something like this but I have tried setting I have seen in posts and

Hello everyone,
I was just curious if there is a way to turn off dpms for good. I have to
turn it off every time I reboot wich wouldnt be bad but every time I forget
about it the system hangs beyond recovery (bug in the hardware or bios does it

Hi Ot,
You can always install the DPMSi...rpm as root, if it is missing.
When i start Xwin i get the error X11 Server lack
DPMS Support. I know it had something to do with the monitor. But i dont know
how to either turn it on in the server or just make it so the annoying message
doesnt pop up every time .
Thanx
I want to use KDE's DPMS stuff, but it doesn't work, although my
monitor does support DPMS. May it be that my BIOS is not configurated
right? Here are the BIOS entries:
IPCA Functino: Disabled
Power Management: User Define
PM Control by APM: yes
Vidoe Off Option: Supend - Off

i think the dpms is not compatible with my ATI Rage Fury video card. it
used to shut off my monitor when i used the old ATI Rage Pro video card.
But after changing video cards this power management which i really
liked will not work anymore.
does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the
