Two problems now:
1) Tuxracer and several other games are playing very slowly. I'd say less than
1 fps. I tried adjusting my video settings and installing new drivers.(Check
my last thread for the info).
2) I need a battery monitor on Linux. I've installed apci and apm. I'm not
quite sure of
I'm using Mandrake 9.0 RC2 and when I try to play TuxRacer, using an Nvidia
GeForce 2 card, the low frame rate makes the game nearly unplayable. I've
played the game before, about a year ago on a different machine and the frame
rate was great. I'm using a dual Atlon MP system with 512
Yikes. I just installed tuxracer --my first attempt at 3D gaming in Linux--
and the framerate is 1 frame per second at best. It's more like watching a
slide show than playing a game.
This seems to be a somewhat common problem? But I haven't found any solutions.
My computer should be able to
include this message in your reply.

I don't play games much, and, in fact, I haven't opened Tuxracer since I
installed 8.0 a couple of months ago. Strangely enough, my Xserver restarts
when I click on its icon in Amusements. I get a black screen with the
outline of my mouse cursor in the upper left corner, then the Xserver
running tux with a few features turned on and tux at

Just a guess but have you tried running X in 16bit?
Is X running in the same video mode as Tuxracer (640x480???)?
Hope it helps,

I did the install from the mandrake rpm's on the
nvidia website and followed the instructions on that
site. Tuxracer was working, it's great fun, but now it
won't.
I should be starting X with gdm. Here's a copy of the
appropriate portion of /etc/X11/prefdm:
if [ -f /etc/sysconfig/desktop ];
After commenting about how wonderful Tuxracer is with
the nVidia 1.0 drivers in full screen I went back to
play it and it wouldn't start. I tried to start it
from a terminal and it said: segmentation fault.
Yesterday trying to run Chromium I had the same thing
happen. What's going on and what can
Yes this is the same problem, but I added the

I have a dual celeron system with an ATI All in wonder, and Drake 7.2,
but when I run tuxracer, the menus load fine, but when I play the game,
the screen is very, very white, you can hardly see tux. but when I press
excape, the little dialog is in color, how could I go about fixing this?
This is probably a lame response, but mine was unusable until I upgraded thru
'updates' to latest kdebase, kdegames, etc. So, well, if you haven't
upgraded your install yet, you might try that. Other wise, I hear a new XF86
is out with more support for ATI Raddeons, maybe All In Wonder is
Do you have video-card acceleration. I think that tuxracer only works
fine with acceleration, the same for tuxkart or chromium
