I use VMware in Linux to run Win2000 in a virtual machine, and I use VMware in
Win NT to run Linux in a virtual machine - I love it! It gives me the operating
system I want whenever I want it. I think when the 30-day license expires, it
just gives a message to that effect, and won't start the
I am looking for a good video card with video-out jacks (don't really need PC
TV). I have been longing for a Diamond Viper 550 card for a long time, now, but
since I have been toiling with Linux, I have heard some disparaging comments
about S3 cards in general not being "Linux Friendly" - Does
Are there any VMware users out there using ver 2.0? As of 2.0, the VMware Tools
are (supposedly) included in the VMware program download - they no longer exist
as a separate package - I have downloaded the 2.0 package for Linux, and
installed it - I loaded Win2000 as the guest OS, and it works
Just downloaded the Linux version of cthugha from the web - in tar.gz form -
followed the installation instructions, and as usual, the program doesn't work -
Can't seem to find the executable, when I do a Find Files in KDE for " cthugha*
", I don't find an executable that works - the closest
I'm sick of dealing with VMware support (or lack thereof) - I have heard mention
of a Linux product that provides a virtual machine to run other OS's in (Win95,
etc.) Anyone know what it's called, and where I can get it?
If you find that it's not already installed, look in the CD under /Mandrake/RPMS
for "wine-991212-1mdk.i586.rpm"
Hope that helps..

I've asked about this before, and haven't heard anything - How do you
access/map/mount NT lan drives when you're running Linux on an NT lan?
If you're crashing 3 times a day in Windows, sounds like you may have a hardware
or configuration problem - Not even Windows crashes THAT often!!

Does anyone know of a mainframe (3270) emulator for Linux? Nothing special, just
tcp/ip connectivity...
Actually, I had the same problem - Netscape acknowledges the problem, and
advises to use a different color depth - I opted to just put up with it and have
been using black-and-white Nutscrape w/ 24-bit color. However, just today I
tried a new desktop theme (using Enlightenment window manager),
Anyone know how to refer to LAN shares on an NT LAN from Linux? Typically, from
Windows, you would use "\\SERVER\SHARENAME" - In Linux, would you have to mount
it as a drive, or is there another way?
I have a generic video card, called '3D Excel - VC962-3D' with an S3 Virge
chipset - the documentation says it uses the S3d 64-bit engine - It has 2MB
VRAM, and in Windo$e it is capable of 1024x768 w/16-bit color - When I try to
config X, the only resolution that works is 640x480 (all color
I have heard a couple of posts elluding to the fact that BeOS is a good OS for
dealing with music - Can anyone elaborate? Can BeOS convert audio files to
digital with better quality than Windo$e (or Linux)? Is the playback better
quality? Does anyone know what compressed formats BeOS uses, and
nice try.
Y'all have been a great help in isolating my X probs - As it turns out, the
problem seems to be VMWare related (I neglected to mention that I was running in
a virtual machine because I thought it was irrelevent) - after several gyrations
and major snafu's, I ended up re-installing Linux
I can comisserate with you - I installed Linux on my home PC, and now when I run
Partition Magic on it there is just a long yellow box where my partitions should
be, with text that reads "No Partition - ERROR" across it - Linux and Windows
still boot fine, but I'm frantically backing up my data
I have been hosed several times now by installing enlightenment themes - not
sure if it's my fault or if there are a lot of buggy ethemes out there...
Anyway, now when I boot Linux, it gets to the ascii mandrake logon screen, then
changes video modes as if to go to the X-based logon, which it
Okay, now I have Linux running without X - now how do I fix X? Is there an easy
way to uninstall X, then re-install it from the Mandrake CD? (or a hard way -
I'm open to suggestions...)
I'm running it on a 350MHz Pentium II, and it is reasonable...

I have had good luck running Linux under VMWare on an NT box - haven't tried it
the other way around... What VMWare does is to boot a "virtual machine" that
runs whatever OS you load in it - it will switch between a windowed or
full-screen session, and though it's a little slow, Linux seems to
How do I change the mouse type in Mandrake 7.0? I went into DrakConf under

I've downloaded a file manager in the form of source code, and need to do a
