my scaner is not working but it is a fairly easy task to disconect the
universal joint (whole shaft is left on the bike) remove the pivot
joint cap, then pry the universal joint to the rear and slip a screw
driver throu the pivot joint hole. The book also doesn't tell you that

A lean mixture, it seems to follow, is less likely to backfire, b/c there is
less unburnt fuel heading out the exhaust. I know I hear a sputter now and then
even though I have a completely stock exhaust on my Shadow.

It's my understanding that when you roll off throttle you cut off the main jet
circuits. This temporarily leans out the cylinders, if the pilot circuits are

thats my piont. stock carb setup will backfire on decel. thats normal.
nothing wrong. thats the factory lean setup to get the good mpg's and pass
emissions. it doesnt hurt a thing.
