The starter circuit and the ignition are two separate systems. Before you dig into the ignition (spark plugs, etc) system take a moment to thoroughly clean both ends of the starter supply cable, the engine ground strap/wire, and the starter relay end of the signal wire from the starter switch. It'

They are shims and thrust washers. As long as you put all the washer back in you should be good there. The armature would have a endplay issue without them installed and shorten the life of the starter but not so great in my opinion to make it miss the clutch gear. Sent from my iPhone > On
