Thanks Drew, and Graham,
I will get E-free from now on.
Since I bought it, I have not turned off the fuel:
the prior owner said he re-built the petcock
(due to leaking?), and he told me he suggested just
leaving it "on", as he thought that the constant off/on cycling
would just wear it out faster;
Graham,
thanks, ie: a 'maintainer'.
will look at going cheap, but not too cheap, don't want to wreck a good
battery that's only about a year old.

Oh yes, I use ethanol free in all my bikes as well and a dash of sea foam
in each 5 gallon can. Fortunately the e-free station is only about 6 or 7
miles away and I don’t ride much anyway - mostly test riding bikes, mine or
others and just keeping them running. Not sure of the results of e-free yet
You have to look into which one is closest, but one of the shell gasolines,
either 91 or 93 is ethanol free. You can fill your garage/lawnmower red can
with that and use it for a while to see if it helps. Once the idle jets are
clogged you have to remove and push them open with solven and a thin wi
A maintainer - yes, a trickle charger - no. I have all my bikes on
maintainers, 7 (and a half) of them right now. A trickle charger just keeps
trickling 1/2 amp or whatever into the battery whether it needs it or not.
A maintainer, cycles on and off when needed. A trickle charger can fry a
battery.
Thank you for the reply Graham,
Yes, flooding a possibility I will check the line from the petcock.
I'll pick up some carb cleaner.
Any opinion on needing a trickle charger for the winter even if I ride once
a week?

Mike,
Thank you, I'll check out Honda for engine guards too, but if successful,
probably have to save up a bit of cash first, certainly not cheap.
I hope if I get another non-start that I'll be able to show some loving
kindness to the starter.

Hello Kyle,
Thank you for the reply. I have also thought of the fuel filter, so I will
check that. And you are the second person to tell me to check the petcock
to carb line, which I will also attempt to do. I felt really bad that I was
abusing the starter, if it happens again I think I can just wa
My guess with the starting issue on that particular occasion is that
flooding or starved gas. Either way, as it did start, make sure the vacuum
line from carb to petcock is secure and find that sweet spot when starting.
Maybe full choke on your bike floods, so don’t give it full choke
initially. In
Starters are expensive for these bikes. I saw you've been warned about that
stater chain already. Take it seriously. It brings down a lot of bikes. I
have an 1984 red with 15.9k miles on it... Broken starter chain. I'm going
to repair it.
As far as the engine guards, the oy ones from Honda are th
First a warning about abusing the starter. It's not the starter motor
that's the biggest worry since that's easy to repair/replace but you really

I found that the black ones are rarer than hens teeth.
I have a brand new one (Vietnam), never installed.
I found a used pair, in black, while waiting for the arrival of the Vietnam
guard.
I had to have them powder coated.
The acquisition price ($225) plus powder coating ($150) made t
Hello everyone,
I bought my beautiful '85 NH 700 on March 1st, she now has 41K on the clock.
I've got 3 questions today, so thanks for any and all help.
First two are related:
Every single time since we hooked up, she's started on the very first go,
until 2 days ago...
It had been about 10 days s
