Sam Janazzo called to report that the GRASSHOPPER SPARROW from yesterday
continues as well as the GLAUCOUS GULL that was reported earlier today. Both
birds are at Jones Beach West End.
The GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen again near the turn around at West End, as you
enter the parking lot. Look
in with a
mixed flock of Horned Larks and Snow Buntings.

For those of you who bird Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, you might be
interested in this. During our Van Cortlandt Park walks we spend a lot of time
dodging bicyclists and joggers who for the most part are very respectful to our
bird watching group as we are with them.

1 Cackling Goose continues at Van Cortlandt Park this morning. Seen
on the small opening of water on the VCP Lake. Also continuing were 3
Eastern Bluebirds, first seen on Vault Hill before they flew east

Heads up people Evening Grosbeaks are in our area. I am in line trying to
get gas near the South Conduit Avenue in Queens. Of course with light I
have been birding much to the amusement of other drivers. To my amazement,

they flew off into the bay and *158 Snowy Egrets*, my highest count at
Jamaica Bay.
I could not find a single *Black-crowned Night-Heron* today, a stark
contrast to the 93 I counted on the East Pond last Saturday.

winter/non-breeding Chipping Sparrows)*, failed inspection upon close
scrutiny.
I suspect there were a lot more birds around than I saw, but most were
keeping a low profile given the many Merlins that were flying around
picking off those less discrete.

bird for Queens. This should have made the list serve a lot sooner; I hope

The American White Pelican continues on the East Pond on the east side about 50
yards south of North Island. In addition, the American Avocet (presumably) the
same bird from yesterday is at the North End of the East Pond.

A Baird's Sandpiper found by John Gluth this morning on the south end of the
East Pond has been re-found further north.
Currently feeding on the spit across from the North Island on the east side.
Being observed with Anthony Collerton.
