Chris - Lovely story! Seems to me that the importance of the "Document" has
always been around the process and not the product. When the News Room is
buzzing that is not the sound of incidental (co-incidental) work to my ears.
It is just part of the whole thing. The discussion, growth, change,

Just a brief fluttering in to comment on the note taking. I have been
a little concerned about the convener being the note taker. Two
examples from the WOSonOS, which is my one and only fully attended OS
event so far!

yes yes to all of the considerations you've outlined here, lisa. in the
last few years, i've been suggesting to people that facilitating open space
is a practice in making choices... having so little pre-set structure means
we are resting in making choices about how to be all through the event...
I am glad that this session at the WOSonOS also talked about what is
lost if chairs are not used, and what is created if chairs are used.
I for one would not be able to attend a session without chairs.
Which is fine - whoever comes. But the removal of chairs would remove

Amen to that! I hear proposals to do less all the time. If the hosting
process becomes a burden - what can I as a host do to bring it back to
being a joy? I suspect this is an never ending inquiry for Open Space hosts.

Hi Kari,
I usually don't worry a lot about note taking. In
the beginning I did, but I discovered that for
most people, the conversations themselves were
much more important than the notes. I do make
clear that if some future action is to be taken,
notes are important and in that case they ha
Hi Eleder,
In my experience, the break of the night is an
important separation. Usually, it has the effect
of letting the exchange of the first day sink in
and digest. With as a result that the people are
ready for action on the next day.
So for me it would feel logical to have the three

I think that bad notes are fine for the people that participated in a

Hi Kari, I share you concern and I think that distributed note-taking would
be the "natural" way in Open Space. My experience, though, is that even if
we as facilitators encourage it or as conveners ask for it to other
participants, people tend to keep their own notes.

Michael,
With trepidation I continue this conversation despite the sense that
we're alone in a circle and everyone else on the list are using the law
