look at the kernel.domainname setting using sysctl.

The problem is that the change is not being saved and I dont know what
file is used to define Core.

Ignore if you've already checked this but... can the file Config.pm be
written to by the Apache/Perl process/user? Have you tried modifying
other values to see if they get updated?

/etc/sysconfig/network
e.g.

Defaults.pm file? It is located in Kernel/Config/Defaults.pm
