Hi Julie,
I have been doing a bit of bellydancing for 6 years and I
believe my back is a lot stronger for it. I don't get anywhere
near the amount of low back pain I used to get. More fun than
formal exercise too.
Are you protecting your back by trying to stay at the same level

Hi Julie,
I have been doing Pilates for a couple of years now and really find it
makes a difference in my abilities to sustain midwifery work. I had lots
of SI problems resulting from having kids and carrying them around on my
hip (they were little fatties). I have far fewer problems now and
I make a point of treating myself to an appointment with my network chiropractor after each birth I attend as I too encourage the woman to choose her place/ position of birth and find my lower back is tight the next day. I generally have no problems this way. He always knows how many births I have
Yoga - great for flexibility and strengthening back
muscles, plus just great for you all round

Hi all,
I've just started work as a midwife and I think I
need some exercise to strengthen my back, feeling a bit stiff after catching
babies in the shower, bath, floor, birth stool ect. I think it is a

physical abili
Hi
Tracey,
I did
a PPH audit in the FBC at The Mercy (Melbourne) in 2002/3/4. I did
find that there was an increased risk of PPH with the birth stool. I can't
remember the actual figure (small) but I would have loved to have developed the
audit into length of labour, the type of woman y
