Too busy for me. In a past life I had a stroboframe flash bracket. It was a lot
of hardware with minimal benefit. In the photo of this device I see a cork
surface where the base attaches to the camera. Cork doesn't grip. You need a
soft rubber-like surface. Too many minuses.

this message !
A lens with a collar would be quicker to reorient from landscape to portrait
and wouldn't lead to an offset camera body that you'd get with a ballhead.

I didn’t watch the video very far. I suspect the allen wrench you refer to is
to adjust the Universal to your particular camera body, a one-time process.
I find it quite fast and simple to flip from horizontal to vertical with an
L-bracket using a tripod. Unclamp, flip, set in place, clamp.
Larry, yes, but a ball head requires tightening.
Think of a flash bracket: it doesn't. A flip is much easier and quicker.
And then, if you are completely leveled (shooting up or down), you'd still
need some tilt from the head but in the orthogonal direction (forward
rocking as opposed to

I am surprised why I cannot find a bracket that allows such quick

Many thanks to all who responded.
I have several followup questions.
1. L-brackets (acratech).
I am confused, maybe I am just slow... but it seems to me that flipping
between the two orientations is not quick. I watched this video, and
toward the end, it shows that an alan wrench is needed
There are some pan heads with plates that flip 90 degrees, (or anywhere
in between, though I don't see the point really, if you want that get a
ball head), but the good ones are more expensive than the average ball
head, and the not good ones you don't want.

You might take a look at this one.

I use and leave a Stroboframe 300-115 Vertaflip PHD Camera Platform
mounted to the heavy duty tripod I carry in the car .
Might be a bit much for a monopod ..
I've been aiming to getting L brackets to use more portably.

Hi All,
I asked this
Acratech.net Universal L Bracket:

It requires you have an Arca-Swiss type camera or lens plate for whatever item
you want to mount, and an Arca-Swiss type QR clamp for whatever support you
plan to use. Of course, they sell
Two thoughts, well, three or four…
1. L-bracket. Swiss-Acre mount used on a bullhead that uses a clamp rather than
a screw-down system to secure the lens. Really Right Stuff? Not cheap.
2. Use lenses with tripod collars.
3. I’ve used cheap ball heads on monopods. Fageddaboutit. (sp?)
Kirk does
Check out "L" brackets. They're normally associated with arca Swiss type quick
release plates but I've seen some with screw mount capability for direct
attachment to a tripod or monopod.

I am considering buying a monopod and some type of device that allows
quick and easy flipping between horizontal and vertical positions.
