The bad news is that no good deed goes unpunished. On my ride a woman was
having trouble catching her dog, so I rode past where the dog was, parked my
bike, and it promptly fell over. The smart function knob on my K-3 II
My 18-270 seems like it won't lock focus at infinity. Is there a good place to
send it for repair etc. that won't cost more than just buying a used one?

I love my 55-300 PLM in particular for the short distance of 95 cm
making it an excellent semi-macro lens at 300 mm.

compact set with me. I'm always happy with the results.

I had a 35/2 at one time. Rarely shoot wide angle so I parte

imagine other owners are just as protective. Looking at my current
catalog, I see it is eclipsed only by the FA50 1.4 in number of photos
produced.

Hi Friends, had a similar problem with a Pentax "A" 35-105 mm f3.5 Lens -
bought Like New for US $ 65 + Tax at Kaufman's Camera in the Bay Area CA. I
reckoned a CLA would cost more than buying another one, say from KEH com -
$ 149 then. I then took the DIY route after reading up so
problem with a Pentax D-FA 100mm macro lens:
the aperture system on the lens is sluggish to respond and thus all
images are overexposed, especially on high f-stop numbers (i.e. 5.6,
8, 11 and onward).
Has anyone encountered this problem? How has one solved it? I'm

Yes, the aperture mechanism is dirty/gummed up: the lens needs a CLA (clean,
lubricate, adjust) service. The auto-aperture actuating lever should snap back
instantly, somewhere around 10-20 milliseconds max. Half a second is almost
literally forever in terms of these mechanisms.

I saw a recent program on TV where a 100-year old telescope was restored, and
the restorer used methylated spirits on the (glass)
lens to bring them back to what looked like pristine quality.
I intend to try it on an old 500/8 telescopic lens I own...
