I just had a very good experience with Pentax Service. Some may
recall that I dropped my AF 540FGZ on its nose. On a hard floor. The
zoom motor quit working and the case and wide angle diffuser were
damaged. I sent it to Pentax Colorado. They fixed it for $119. I got
it back today, and
I've had very good experiences with Pentax Service in the past. It's
just this one time.
My K100 D was sent in last year because paint chips from somewhere had
gathered on the focusing screen, some covering the text display. I
might have been able to clean it myself, but: a. I wanted to

Other than not returining phone calls, same as Nikons service, the
Toronto group has been pretty good, so far.
Fixed my FA 70-210
So, back in June I sent my 16-50 in for two things to be repaired:
1. The barrel was coming apart near the mount (really!)
2. Cannot achieve focus out to infinity when in the 16-20mm zoom range.
I mentioned both of these on the repair information sheet when I sent
it in.
When I got the lens
In June, I sent my K10 D and an old FA 28-105 mm lens in for repair. I
asked that the autofocus be repaired on the K10 as there was a
backfocus problem big time, and it seemed unable to do any predictive
autofocus at all. I asked that the eyecup be replaced, as the rubber
part of it had

On all occasions that I spoke to someone in repair I discovered that

What I got back was a K10 D with the firmware updated to 1.30 and
focus that was much better, though still needing to be auto-focused
twice to get a sharp photo, and still poor predictive AF.

Seriously, though, there seem to be a bunch of

Leica was right to never introduce AF on its RF and SLR cameras. Most

I agree.
Moreover I'd say there are simply a couple situations where the AF is
no adequate to do the job.
Try to explain that to the average guy however ...
The problem is that most modern cameras do not make manual focus
anything near easy: small viewfinder, no microprism etc...

This is what he eventually decided he would do - just buy a

It is unusual to me that what I've described was actually natural. It
is very user-unfriendly. But then again, I am not used to the way of

Hi!
I have a question about American service in general and Pentax service
in particular.
A friend of mine bought Pentax Optio S4 and accidentally managed to
hit a lens while it was opened. So he went to a local (Israeli) Pentax
service lab where a serious 4 digits (in NIS) quote has been made

To cut the chase short. The darn guy on the other side of the phone
line refused to give me a number in dollars. He claimed that unless
they inspect the broken camera, they don't give out quotes...
