want, and a decreased likelihood of grabbing any other

On the other hand I usually photograph scenes where I recognize some theme,
composition, or situation that I would like to photograph. It that sense they
are planned, if not in detail
I like to plan photos. I'm just not very good at it.

That's a good phrase, and true. But not the whole truth - it can also be the
deliberate absence of planning, just to see what happens. It's the best way
to photograph in a strange city.

i usually just find (i prefer see) photos, but i start by seeking
something to see; for example when i travel, i often have a
100% find, with the rare exceptions being when someone asks me to
shoot something as a favor.
