as a service"? It shouldn't for two reasons:
1) As SqueezeBoxen get more prevalent, iTunes integration will become
far more common than standalone boxes and,

from iTunes as tracks are added to the playlist, not just when they're

I'm really interested in this, but do the files need to be the same in
itunes and SC? What i mean is that i have a seperate library for my SB3
(FLAC) and my iPods (MP3). Will this still work given that the
ARTIST/ALBUM/TRACK tags still match up but files and location are
different?

No, sorry, it probably won't work - SlimServer and iTunes need to be
using the same set of files.
I do a check that the file matches because otherwise it's very hard to
be sure both systems are referring to the same file using only the
tags.

Hi James,
I'm seeing the exact same problem that Scott was see
I'm having trouble as well (but of a different type), I can see the
plugin in Squeezecenter and I can configure it, but it doesn't appear
to run at all. It doesn't note what is currently playing and it doesn't
update when a file has played or been skipped.
I did note that even when I force instal
It says, under Now Playing, "Nothing being played!" and it says that
even when something is being played.

Well, Scott's error message was from OSX, and I now think it looks like
the plugin was installed in the wrong place.
The Mac users are saying
So, I've tried running with direct update on and direct update off,
doesn't seem to have much of an effect. Also, iTunes is yet to open,
when I was running on Windows I recall it would open when it was
closed, don't know if that's different on the Mac version. I miss your
plugin terribly, I hope y

Can you change the plugin.itunesupdate log level to debug and try

In log.conf - log4perl.logger.plugin.itunesupdate = DEBUG
And in iTunesUpdate.pl - my $ITUNES_DEBUG = 1;

In case anyone else runs into this same problem: It appears that you
need to install the XCode developer tools in order to properly install
the applescript::glue library.

Thanks for all help so far. This is great. Now all my iTunes covers
nicely shows up on my controller!
See my previous post. Should there have been any controls/options on
the controller?
I have selected Dynamic update and Use album art, and I notice that
iTunes is tarted when I start
So far there isn't a menu in the EXTRA. Or wasn't last night. I will try
to restart the controller today and see if that works.
Is it special options of iTunesUpdate that requires iTunes running or
will it be started anyway, even if I de-select Dynamic update and album
art?

I just upgraded my computer running OS X 10.4.x to 10.5.3, which also
meant an upgrade from SlimServer 6.5.x to SqueezeCenter 7.0.1 and and
update to iTunesUpdate plugin v2.4.4.
Whew! A lot of updates today.
Anyway, everything seemed ok, until I tried to play a sing by the

I installed the itunes update plugin but can't get it to work. When I
play songs via squeezecentre, no song seems to get updated in itunes.
Itunes update is listed between the pluggins, but when trying to reach
the settings I get an error page (a 404). Do you have any idea how to
troubleshoot
There was a syntax error in the latest version of the plugin.
I've just posted a new version which fixes this, hopefully that will
solve the problem!

James, the iTunes Update plugin will have to be changed a bit to work
with latest 7.1 nightly. It's the logTrackToSlimServer function that is

I have disabled direct update and would now like to process the
iTunesUpdate_hist.txt use file. But I guess I do need to install perl
first before running the script. I'm totally ignorant about perl, could
