I have to agree with Whil here...
I have used them for years with over 30 domains and have yet to have a
problem, and yes I have transfered several domains out of their hands -
no problems.
I can't suggest what to do in your case but try to communicate with them
again and see.

That is my experience also. Their online menus are very difficult to follow.
However, they do get back to me in 24 hours so I'll give them that much
credit.
