It's worth pointing out that the software on the beta units is still
exactly that :) IR interface is still a work in progress as I
understand it.

But for me stuff like backlit buttons and a workable snoozebutton is
really important if I'm going to replace my trusty (yet lousy)
alarmclock-radio with something that costs ten times as much. Probably
the knob does the trick
