Re: [RBW] Flood Season Riding in CA

We live in Fairfield and have friends who moved to the pocket area. There is a standing arrangement that we can evacuate to their house in case of fire and they can come to ours in case of flood. In the last few years we are at Fire = 2 and Flood = 0, but we are keeping the guest room ready

This is how I use my 2 bikes with wide/low. The commuter has the big ring on a triple center with bashguard on outer, the rando is 9 x 2 but the granny gets used only with the low 4 and only really for steep loaded hills. On Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 8:06:54 PM UTC-7 Joe Bernard wrote: > My

I put one of these Hafney bar end mirrors on a bike several years ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AVHQB22/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8=1 It has a good field of view, is sturdy and not expensive compared to some like the Berthoud (which does look more elegant). I was not

2020-05-29 Thread Rick Thompson
Ha, very cool. I have a rowboat for the upper body work. It's much too big to tow far by bike, but I can carry a bike on the boat. That works for the kind of trip where a body of water is connected by a road or path, I can row one way and bike back to my car.

I did one, on a hardtail mtn bike which is now my commuter. As Joe says, the only special tools were to tighten those big locking nuts at the BB. I thought mine were tight enough first try, but the motor came loose and rotated down in under a thousand miles. I don't think you can overtighten.

I had the same problem after changing from Orange Seal to Panaracer sealant, but found I could clear the clogged valve stem with a nail. Now I fill until flow slows down, pull off the fill tube and push the bunch of walnuts shells in with the nail, put back the tube and continue. I am not sure

[RBW] Re: Ride length on Jitensha/Map type bars? Updated my Redwood.

2020-01-28 Thread Rick Thompson
After decades of riding various drop bars I've realized that Jitensha type bars with ergo grips just work better for me. The wrist angle with around 35 degree sweep is all day comfortable, and the shaped grips put less ulnar pressure than holding a round tube. I first tried them on my old steel

[RBW] GBW as a commuter e-bike?

2020-01-13 Thread Rick Thompson
Quick intro as this is my first original post. I've been a Riv fan for years but not yet an owner - almost went with an Atlantis as a touring bike a couple of years ago but chose custom instead. I do have Riv supplied parts on several bikes, and live close enough to Walnut Creek that I've

2019-12-04 Thread Rick Thompson
These are not Albatross, but I added Origin8 bar ends to Milan bars so I could stretch out a bit in a headwind. It works pretty well, my elbows land on the flat of the ergo grips. I tried adding actual aero bars originally, with elbows tucked, but that's just not a comfortable position for me.

[RBW] tubeless tire repair & maint Q
