If you remember the wheel size, that would be a strong clue to the frame
size. A 5-9 rider could probably ride a 56cm Atlantis or a 58cm. The 56
was the biggest frame size with 26" wheels. The 58cm was the smallest
frame size with 700C wheels. There's very little chance it's a 54.5cm, and
re mark’s height, I’d say he’s about 5-9 or 5-10. I did measure his riv, center
of crank to top of seat tube once, and did not write it down, but 56cm sticks
in my mind. he and I knew little about touring bikes then and did what riv
recommended.

slide on first, then an 8/9/10 cassette. So I'd say go ahead and get your
wheels and 8-speed cassette, my guess is the it'll be many years before you
have to abandon those gears.

My 26 wheeled Atlantis runs first generation 1.75” Compass tires. Same tread
pattern as the McClure Pass tire. I’m very happy with them. Pressure is 35

I have been spoiled by the Barlow Pass EL on my 700c Homer and want to have
the same plush ride on my 26" Atlantis. I doubt the Rat Trap Pass would
fit at 2.3", but could probably fit the 1.8" Naches Pass and definitely the
1.5" McClure Pass.
Currently, I'm leaning towards the Naches Pass EL in
Michelin WildGrippers - 26" x 2, or thereabouts.

I've been running Bruce Gordon Rock N Roads on my 64cm Atlantis with fenders.
They are a 43c label width and measure about 43mm on a mavic a719 rim. When
I'm not running fenders, I like running schwalbe thunder berts in a 2.1" width.
2.1" wide tires work great without issues of toe overlap.

fantasizing about bike builds...

The Atlantis is pretty much the signature Riv frame these days. It has been
around since the very late 90's and as mentioned, since they are built to order
they never have unsold frames to concern over. Back then I could have bought
one in the very original geometry that had longer tt's, but I
I didnt think it says much about it being better than the Atlantis over a
variety of terrain. The geometry is different. Personally, I don't feel the
draw of crazy long chainstays, and prefer a top tube length where I can use
drops if I choose to. The Atlantis is also just a perfect bike though
Drop bars! Atlantis has its place absolutely.

batches by I believe Waterford. This is why it may take 4 months to get one.
Rivendell has specific buyers already on order with a deposit. They don't have
to worry about over ordering. They can still offer these bikes
