I wonder how many of the new Atlantis bikes Bill has sold. I still like the Joe
but convinced a drop bar Atlantis with 650B would be fun.

Take advantage of that thought & follow thru. I have a 16 year old
Atlantis & was awestruck when I rode the newest iteration. I thought my
bike was comfortable but the longer wheelbase is amazing. Got a chance to
ride an hour's worth of RBS staff favorite trails & couldn't believe how

This review is making me think about dipping my toes in Atlantean waters

I don’t have a 27.5 Hunqapillar. If I wanted to run straight bars for all
riding I might prefer the Hunqapillar over the Atlantis, maybe.

Bill, don’t you have a 27.5 Hunq? If so, when would you choose it over your
new Atlantis?
Thanks,

As a new owner of a 56cm 650b Atlantis, I have to precognitively say that the
new Atlantis is a perfect bike. I say that because my Atlantis came to me with
Choco bars installed and I really like them, but they’re not ideal for me. Like
Bill and Joe, I want me some drops on my Atlantis. I’m in
As the new owner of a 53/650B Atlantis I have to agree it's a perfect bike
right down to the name, headbadge and color. It's ridiculously good at the
"being a bike" thing.

If I wanted to run drop bars on a 55cm Appaloosa, I'd run an 8cm stem, and
I'm sure it would be dandy. Maybe not perfect for me, but dandy. 8mm is
not much, I agree, but it's not nothing either.

According to the geo charts, the 55cm Appa top tube is 0.8cm longer than
the 56cm Atlantis. That's less than a 1/3 of a inch.
Can that really be contributing to one frameset being more ideal for drop
bars and/or swept backs over the other?

Got it, all excellent points Bill. Thank you for the detailed response!

Mike Williams asked for a comparison with the Joe Appaloosa, which is an
excellent bike. There are a few small but notable differences that make
the Joe Appaloosa a very good bike for Bill Lindsay, and make
Hey there Bill, you also had/ have a Joe App, right? Is the Atlantis any

there is not another <$1500 frameset out there that is intended for the

Time for a review yet?
I'm eager to hear about the ride - especially with the long stays.

Agreed, great ride and attention to fun and functional details. Looking forward
to some ride reports and pics. What a handsome bike!

Jamison asked about my red-orange stem. It’s painted and it’s holding up OK.
There’s a pretty big chip on top near the bolt, which doesn’t bother me a lot
but maybe would bother me if it matched my frame

Hi Bill, is that stem powder coated or painted? Has the finish held up well?
Thinking about a color matched stem for a build I am working on.
I like the red with the blue green.

I saw your original post about JA sizing but I'm not sure if it was B4 or
after I ordered the Atlantis. I have Billie bars with a 110mm stem. They
come back a long way and I feel I would have felt a bit cramped even with a
130mm stem on the 50. FWIW, I had a Berthoud Aspin saddle with cut out on
Same here for my Appaloosa. Bought it as a road/touring bike not a
dedicated trail rider.
Was sized by Riv charts as a 55, but felt it was too small when I got it
and built it up. Ordered a 58 and it couldn't be more perfect for me.
Semi related: I have a blue 55 Appaloosa with under 200 miles on
I wanted a MIT Atlantis and Riv recommended a 50. I told Will that I would
not be using it as a single track but as an all rounder with some light
trails. I'm at the top of the 50 PBH range and the bottom of the 53. I got
the 53 and it is the best fitting bike I have owned. Hope this helps.

Also, it wouldn't really be a 2. We're on the 3rd or 4th iteration of this bike
now, which would make it a 4 or 5!

"2” be became "RBW" on most models (not Clem, I think) because of something I
harped on for years*: Rivendells didn't say "Rivendell" enough on the frame.

Yep the new decal has the fish and the anchor and the mesh netting, but no ‘2’.
The Rivendell Atlantis is 10x as important and significant a machine than the
original Bridgestone Atlantis ever was, so I think the ‘2’ deserved to be
dropped.

Has" Atlantis 2" become "Atlantis"?
