Well I'll let you all know how the Dureme 50's work on my early
green Hillborne.
They were shipped out yesterday. Clearly I won't be able to run
fenders.. So it will be my mid to late summer configuration. In the
fall, the Berthoud 50mm fenders and Pasela TG 37's will go back on.

My Hillborne is an Orange one. I bought it from Riv in December of
2009, and at the time, I think there were some Greens still around in
some sizes, but there were no Green 56's.
After another pass through my taxes, I've decided that a $150 set of
tires for my Hillborne (for which I alread
Bill , Is yours an older green or a new orange Hillborne.
I remember when I was at RBW, Keven telling me that the new oranges
had a bit more clearance at the chain stays.
I purchased the last 56cm guy in the house. So, I know that as far as
Hillbornes go...my bike has less room for big tires.
Still
40's seem like they'd be fine for most off road riding on a Hillborne
or Hilsen. I guess if you need a bigger tire than that you probably
need a different bike. I do wish they were a bit cheaper.

For commentary on their ride quality I'd talk to Jay at Rivendell.
Regarding the 40s vs the 50s, here is my thought process. Riv says
the 40s measure a true 38.89. So if the 50s are really 10mm wider,
that's basically 49mm wide. I took the calipers to my 56cm Hillborne
this morning. A
I'd love to try the 50's on my Hillborne...but am unsure if they'll
fit. Does anyone know?
The Supreme 50's measured closer to 45mm...on a Synergy rim..so I'm
wondering if it's the same with the Duremes?
Can anyone speak to their ride quality? Are they more supple than
Marathon's? Good for road
My experience with them is that I've been checking the Riv site for
the last several months waiting for them to be in stock. I'm eager to
try them too! 40's or 50's for my Hillborne? I'm leaning towards the
40s.

Good. The more choices the better. I was going with Garth's report

the 650b grand bois cypres is worth it too. at my weight (155lbs.),
the cypres is plenty big and comfortable and i find it to be a
lighter, sportier tire compared to the hetre.

I feel this morning the need to clarify something. I know Ken, and he
is a much better, stronger, faster rider than I will ever be. His
observations are probably the correct ones.
As my opinion is based on not being a real serious rider, it's not
worth anything.

I don't know if this has been discussed here but the Dureme is to
be the "replacement" for the soon to be discontinued XR.

The Scwalbe global site already has the XR off the site.

They probably are...but, then I've got to change fenders, or frame!
Sometimes good enough is good enough..though then what would I spend
all my time on the internet looking at?

And from a 650B perspective...I really like the Schwalbe Marathons. I
heard lots of complaints about the dead, slow ride but frankly don't

And I'm the exact opposite, love the 700x40 Supreme and rarely, if
