Christopher,
I can’t be certain, but I suspect that the APSmart units have the same
circuitry as the Tigo RSD units. I say that because of the press release
below. I suspect that the only difference is the enclosure, but that is merely
speculation. Interestingly, I worked for Tigo nearly a
Is this the same concept as Tigo? (and others)

People need to contact me off list, and I will set up a process. I am
going to follow Brian's information as it is a great road map for this
to be effective. I would like to budget one week from today for
interested parties to contact me so we can get this going. Chris

That is a great offer. For the sake of our industry I hope it succeeds.
What is the next step? Please keep us in the loop.

I would like to suggest that interested WRENCHES form their own
"subcommittee" so that we can have an somewhat organized approach to
this issue. I do know Fronius has been working on this, and we should
seek them out. I will volunteer to help organize the subcommittee. I

The process is very regimented. Here's a link with the details:

A few things to note:
All submitted public inputs (PIs) are addressed by the relevant Code Making
Panel (CMP); the NFPA has transitioned so that
I tell my grid friends to buy a Genset. If they can afford a roof
mounted solar power system and all of the RSD bloatware, they can easily
afford a good genset.
A recent project, the county would not approve the
offgrid home unless it had power. I was too busy (it was too hot) to get
involved
Brian, can you respond to the email regarding CMP and this issue?
Provide some guidance? Chris

It’s good to see everyone waking up to the dangers of RSD. This last code cycle
has been a complete disaster for solar, between RSD and these obscene set back
requirements for solar panels on the roof, it really looks like residential
solar is under attack by hostile forces, driving up costs
Fronius is also involved in the effort to remove the MLSD requirement.

In order to remove MLSD, it would require financial backing to get
someone on a committee, pay, house and feed them
Brian, I think you serve on a CMP. (if not, anyone with knowledge on
the process would be helpful.) What is the process for receiving and
acknowledging input from non CMP members? Every time I submitted
comment, I received no response (as far as I can remember). Thank you, Chris

All of these new code required safety features have a detrimental effect
on reliability. That's not a huge deal with GT, but off grid, this can
become a serious safety issue in itself, as the homeowner loses
communications, water, heat, and frozen food.

The Schneider RSD is decent. At least it is useable as a 600vdc disco.
The few offgrid homes that were required to use this had the Tigo units on
the array panels and wireless comm to the RSD. As soon as the inspector was
done, those went to Ebay. I never use a roof but have used a barn for
Movement? Maybe, but as far as I can tell it’s just a forum to complain as I

There is a movement to do away with module level shutdown.

FixMLSD has convincing arguments that MLSD is less safe than safe than
an arc fault protective device with a standard string configuration.

So who has a good reliable off grid RSD?

I have seen this with too many MLPEs. I share your concerns about the rapid
adoption of these failure points. I would assume they would be engineered such
