You may also setup for a dual boot between Linux and windows. That way
you can use Linux until you need cold fusion or other programs. Its not
perfect but an option until things get better.

when you set up the DNS server. did you setup the reverse lookup of the
domain correctly ? So if you use nslookup and type the IP of machine1,
it should come back with the host name of machine1.
