My employer has several surplus Sun SpacStations, Models 5, 10 and 20,
specifically, all about 6 years old. I may acquire one or more of them.
Can anyone report their results using this hardware?
I have never used the 5, but I have had no trouble with Red Hat 6.0,
6.1, and 6.2 on the 10 or
I hate to ask this, but did you start the server? (smbd, nmbd)
Without nmbd running at the least, the machine would not show up in the
network neighborhood. :)

Use the "unzip" utility, similar to gunzip, but without the g and a

I tried masqidentd-1.2.1, but the author stated isn't compatible
with kernel 2.4 due to some fluke with ip_conntrack etc..
Try oidentd or midentd, both available from freshmeat.

what command do I use to substitute all occurences of a certain string (say,

I think CDFS is used on FreeBSD/NetBSD. Linux calls the same iso9660.
If you want CDFS support, you need to grab a file and compile it as a
module, but it IS available. Check out

It's taken me about a year but have finally gotten comfortable enough w/ linux
to take this step. I want to put winblows in it's rightful place and run it as
an app on my linux box. I have 3 mission critical apps that I have to run on
winblows and the rest of my work is now being done
I d/l'ed the redhat 6.2-beta archive, and set up the directory hierarchy
in preparation for burning a cd.
I know I've seen teh instructions for burning a bootable cd before, but
a search for that info is presently eluding me.
I haven't updated the tutorial for Red Hat 6.1 yet (I'm

I have a new install of Linux RH 6.1. I choose a Custom / install
everything on a 3 GB partition with a 150 meg Swap partition. Everything
