Are we talking about Mac OS X? If so it has a BSD core and includes
NFS. Thus, I would mount the Mac's HD from my Linux server and use tar
to get all it's data.

exception of sound-- I can't get it to work. When I run the soundcard
autodetection program, it detects the chip correctly (Vendor: C-Media,

Yikes! I have never seen a process by that name before (running as root
even), but it may or may not be an issue.
Are you running any special or custom software that may own that
process? If not I would suggest you download and run chkrootkit at
www.chkrootkit.org. Chkrootkit is kinda like a vi

I have a DVD-ROM and WinTV on RedHat 8. I did some googleing to find the proper apps
to get these devices going (xawtv and xine). Now let me just say that either xawtv and
xine suck, or I am a dumb azz. In all fairness these apps work, just not very well.
