If all you need is default gateway then make sure that gated is not
running (type '/etc/rc.d/init.d/gated stop' and then 'setup' -> select
ntsysv to edit the run level so that gated does not restart next reboot)
then you need to add the default gateway to /etc/sy

in principle be anything -- and I'm assuming your other LAN hosts are on the
same network that your eth0 interface is)
So what happens is your machine happily sends out packets from your other LAN
hosts out the ppp connection, but the other side of

Ignore that part of my last message. ;)
However I am still curious as to why you have it in your routing table.

Take a look at the docs that come with pppd. If you compiled it your self
they're in the directory you unpacked it. If you used rpm, then they're in
/usr/doc/ppp-?.?.? I haven't tried it but that's where this info is. You
may also want to look into using ipfwadm, and setup a firewall.

I am _guessing_ that the change from using a default gateway on
another machine on the LAN to using this machine as default gateway
with PPP going will involve changing this information. I'm not
G'day All,
I currently run a RH5 linux box on my LAN. When setup this RH5 box
was not my default gateway (I have semi-permanent modem link). I am
now reconfiguring my LAN so that this RH5 box will be the gateway
machine and will also do routing between my LAN and the internet.
So far I
