did you give a hostname (mailserver that is SMTP enabled) or did you select
"DIRECT SEND" as option?

Since no one else is responding. Check page 17 of the manual (page 34
in adobe). This discusses how to set up the alerts. The host should be
the smtp mail server name or ip address. If you do not know what your
smtp mail server is you can get it form your it department or
