umm you lost me...lets start again.
remember, wins is for name resolution. What do you mean point to point
connection? ie Ras or vpn ? whatever you dial into has to include you in
their browse list or your samba box has to be a local browse master and
sync browse lists with the pdc after a wins loo

I installed the new updates with the ones Raphael supplied then recompiled

So I nuked my laptop (planned anyway to clean up the partitions and all)
reinstalled redhat, and tried SWAT...

on rsync.sa

I am trying to authenticate to a samba share on a Solaris 8 box through
Win2k domain. When I try to map to share it prompts for the username and
password. It doesn't accept the username and password and keep on
popping up to enter the same. When I had a look at the machine log I

all turns around the new red hat choice of i18n settings with utf8
i just couldn't have some consistent behaviour between windows/samba/linux
putting LANG=fr_FR (instead of fr_FR.UTF-8) in /etc/sysconfig/i18n solved
