I don't think it's imagination, I think is it indicative of high particle
content which gives that bitter/metallic taste.
I don't think you would get that taste in a solution which is lower in particle
content.
I'm open to correction to an alternative reason of course, but that's what I
think.

didn't work for me either, though I think they may have slowed down
