(1) happened for me earlier today, but I needed to shut down the phone, so I copied the logs from /tmp to /tmp/save, so that they wouldn't be overwritten on next startup... but unfortunately I forgot that the whole of /tmp would disappear :-).) why don't you just change the logs' locations? in

as for the shr-apps and their small windows -- it might be a solution to use e17/illume as wm. That seems a pity to me. I am enjoying running a real wm (lxde/openbox) and using all my favourite debian apps on my fr and wouldn't want to throw that all away just so that I can read my text messag
