Steve,
Take a look at the Lil' Bird 2 that Ray Hayes sells at Skybench
Aerotech. It's a well designed, all wood bird that uses laser cut
materials. Can be fragile in beginner hands, but so can any wood HLG.
Ray is a (the?) driving force behind wood crafted sailplanes.
We see a variety of models. Pilot skill seems to be key. Poly birds are
preferred and the wood wing Monarchs are the class of the field. We publish
the model type as well full results in the SLNT newsletter in PDF format at

I haven't stocked HLG sized rubber for a couple of years because

I'm looking to invest in a new building table, but am curious where to
go to get a decent one.
Many of the standard tables I see are only 30 deep. Perhaps two of
those together is good?
Anyway, any ideas or suggestions you have would be great.

If they straight on the rack they will stay that way
support them evenly at three points so won't develop a bow with the time
They come with different width , but I found out the narrower table comes
more practical then wider one

Solid core dor. Several sizes are available. I have one that's built

short one that goes in the center of the room on a folding table for
setup and maintenance.

If you have the room and man power the best thing to build on is pool table slate. There are times you can find an old pool table cut the edges down to the slate, remove the feltand you won't have a straighter building table. I had a fireplace mantle that was made out of stone that I gave a friend

Dave,
We use a 34x78 steel table with a linoleum type top surface which
we picked up second hand from an insurance office. Steel legs and
steel I-beams hold the surface flat and twist-free once you get the
table set up properly on your floor.
Several pieces of 2x4 under the legs raise the

Tim is right, the same people keep on winning, no matter what plane they
happen to fly that weekend. When you don't have to SAL though, the Monarch
is still the king. 'Course Tim is one that seems to win no matter what he
is flying. ;-)
