Hi Eric,
you have enabled the whole Softimage community to do things they couldn’t do
before - with simple as well as some very involved tools.
Dependable, well thought out, genuinely useful and not just gimmicks – for many
one or other of your tools has become an essential part of their work.
And i was thinking that im crazy :) thanks for tip. Why would anyone make
such nonpractical change :)

My biggest fear was that Autodesk kills it. How I overcame? I didn’t. I learned
other programs.

Back when the wounds of the retirement of Softimage were still fresh,
there was some talk on this list about ensuring some kind of presence
for Softimage at this year's Siggraph.
Is something like this still in the works, however minimal this might
be, or has this died as being too impractical?

go to AD stand
throw red die balloons at them shouting murderers

Well there are always options that aren't as extreme as throwing red die
balloons at Autodesk and not as extremely low-profile as a Softimage
user dinner... ;)

Funny that. I was just trying to figure out what happened to all the
fighting spirit of a couple of months back.
I for one won't be organizing anything for Siggraph, as I can't attend,
but IIRC some relatively realistic (no red die balloons!) ideas among
some less realistic (red die balloons!)
What about, instead of throwing your wallets at AD you throw them at
someone else :) , that always gets a reaction.

Well, you can bet that nobody involved with the decision to axe Softimage
even knows what SIGGRAPH is, let alone be at the ME booth for it, so any

True, but voting with your wallet doesn't necessarily preclude making a
possibly very small symbolic gesture...
There are still people working with Softimage, even if the company has
quit the software.
The gesture would be FOR them, not against Autodesk IMHO.

I think an unofficial booth showcasing things like that of Softimage.TV would
be awesome, have some monitors, a playlist, and the SI paraphernalia - show
people, and then have them spurred by the slogan “All this, the tools and the

Let's not do the protest thingy. It speaks more about the protester than the

As for dinner, most years I've held it on Sunday as its easiest to reserve and

is there a film shift (tilt shift) or film offset setting in the mix?
that could be off if everything else is spot on

Hey all,

Glad to know the flag is working for you.
The refactoring was done to improve selection response in large/complex scenes
(in some scenes, up to 20x faster).
The algorithm was changed significantly so we introduced XSI_DISABLE_NEW_PICK
to revert back to the legacy algorithm in case of issues.
