I don't think you'd need a big intro and/or outro, the fact the reel got
made should speak for itself
and you could open with a simple statement:
"In March 2014 Autodesk annnounced the retirement of Softimage, this is
what happened since..."
or words to that effect...

An unofficial EOL reel comprising the "greatest hits" released after the
official "retirement" might be something still worth looking into even
if you can't get it sub

Something to highlight the sad fact that Softimage is no more,
needn't be accompanied by lots of "pointy fingers".

I think a documentary film about AD's predatory tactics along the lines of who
killed the electric car might get get some attention at siggraph.

Burn a manikin with an xsi t-shirt next to a banner saying: New autodesk

I would think organising these booth scenarios is very expensive and will imply
people on the booth, etc...
I would suggest give away tshirts or other paraphernalia (non-throw away) with
a message to showcase the situation.
The key will be the message to be sent to be show professional attitude
I think an unofficial booth showcasing things like that of Softimage.TV would
be awesome, have some monitors, a playlist, and the SI paraphernalia - show
people, and then have them spurred by the slogan “All this, the tools and the
talen that made this, is at the brink of extinction” and do some
But in general it is agreed that something must happen.

There are still people working with Softimage, even if the company has
quit the software.
The gesture would be FOR them, not against Autodesk IMHO.

What about, instead of throwing your wallets at AD you throw them at someone
else :) , that always gets a reaction.

Well, you can bet that nobody involved with the decision to axe Softimage
even knows what SIGGRAPH is, let alone be at the M&E booth for it, so any
sort of thing that might annoy the booth staff and make their jobs harder
will do just that and not much else.

Back when the wounds of the "retirement" of Softimage were still fresh,
there was some talk on this list about ensuring some kind of presence
for Softimage at this year's Siggraph.
Is something like this "still in the works", however minimal this might
be, or has this died as being too impractic
